Education that truly merits the name “Christian” must substantively shape young disciples in Christ-likeness. In order for this to happen, this education must be:
- Christ-centered
- Culturally engaged
- Virtue forming
- Intellectually faithful
- Grounded in love
While these things are ostensibly the goals of most Christian schools, I do not believe that we understand them as clearly as we need to. At present, I am working on a book manuscript for Christian school administrators and teacher leaders that identifies many of the idolatries into which many Christian schools have fallen in recent decades. Moreover, it shows how commitment to these five pillars–as properly understood–remedies the problem and fosters a more comprehensive, formational, and faithful Christian education.
